Crochet

Equipment required

One of the benefits of crochet is that it doesn't have to be expensive. Hooks and yarn are relatively cheap but obviously as your skills develop, so will your stash 🤣 The thickness (ply) of your yarn will relate to the crochet needle (hook) you use but there are all kinds of interesting designs you can create by mixing these up! You can crochet with string, wool, thread, ribbon etc but as a beginner you will probably want to start with DK (double knitting) wool and a 4mm hook.

Different stitches

There are a variety of stitches used, all based on chain stitch. If you are following a pattern you will need to check whether it is a USA or UK pattern as the stitch names are different. Once you have mastered the stitches and direction changes it is possible to create anything you can imagine! There are plenty of patterns available for use and YouTube videos to help but if you would like further support, please get in touch.

Homewares or clothing?

Crocheted homewares have always been popular, clothing less so since the '70's although crocheted clothing is making a comeback. Remember your own designs can be as bright or plain as you want - create them how you like them! The whole idea is that you enjoy creating and using / wearing what you have made.

Please be aware, any type of craft is very addictive 😂
