Free motion embroidery
Equipment needed
You will need a sewing machine and an open toe applique foot too as well as thread and fabric to embroider on to. Before you start, remember to change your presser foot and drop the feed dogs as the fabric needs to be free to move in any direction you take it. You are in effect using your sewing machine like a pencil to create a drawing. Try not to go back and forth over the same stitches too many times as you don't want to cause a jam under the machine!
Stitches
You can set your sewing machine up on to any stitch but the default stitch is probably the most suitable for this design. You can draw in pencil or with a fabric pen / marker on the fabric to make it easier to stitch your design. There are also stencils that you can purchase for machine sewing that will help you achieve good results too. It depends what effect you are trying to create.
