There is a difference between learning to play the piano and learning to play the keyboard. To complete beginners I always recommend starting on the keyboard. The piano requires you to play the music entirely unaided, whereas the keyboard allows you to learn chord shapes and can even help you play the chords. Also, you only need to learn to read treble clef - whereas the piano requires you to read treble and bass at the same time! If you are thinking of learning, book a trial session and we can help you work out the best option. You will need your own keyboard or piano for lessons.
Learning to play an instrument requires dedication and practice. Having a goal is really helpful - for example, if there is a piece of music you would really like to learn to play, set this as one of your targets. We will direct you to tutor books that fit with the musical style you enjoy and we will build into the sessions pieces of music that you have expressed an interest in learning.
We are insistent on teaching you the right techniques to play your instrument. Why? Well, who wants posture issues when they are older or repetitive strain injuries! We will make sure you know how to look after yourself before, during and after practice / performance. We will also insist you learn the correct technique to play to prevent as many issues developing as possible whilst you enjoy playing the keyboard or piano.
